About Me
Huiwen Cheung is a Contemporary Visual Artist, Art Educator and Founder of Create and Make a Difference. She holds a MA Fine Art from the University of Sunderland, BA Fine Art in Printmaking and Photomedia at the Norwich School of Art and Design and BTEC General Art and Design at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design (AIB) in the UK.
She creates drawings and paintings, exploring abstraction through colour and patterns of nature, inspired by sublime experiences, stories, memories in relationship to identity, places and family. Her current body of work investigates colour abstractions of clouds, inner presence and is greatly influenced by abstract expressionism, music and recent significant events in history.
Artist Statement
Huiwen has exhibited in the UK and Hong Kong. In 2022, she took part in Ying Mei Duan’s interactive online performance, “I would like to know you,” at the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, Russia. She was in a year long Resident Artist at the Florence Trust Studios, inside a Grade 1 listed church St Saviours in North London with nine other Artists. She was selected for the PAD (Professional Artist Development) scheme for emerging artists at the Chinese Art Centre Manchester and followed by the EAST scheme with Arts Council, London. She was invited to lead a National Drawing Day ‘Big Draw’ workshop at Ipswich Museum, a visiting Artist at the The Brit School, Croydon and has held various art workshops in local and international schools of Hong Kong.
Huiwen is a qualified Art and Design Teacher, who has worked in various UK and International Schools in HK, teaching Visual Arts to Primary, Secondary, BTEC Diploma, Art Foundation and Higher Education students for the past 15 years. Huiwen hopes to inspire everyone to create art and make a difference in the local community and the world.
